On the occasion of the 150th year of The Open Championship in St Andrews, six of golf's greatest champions were made Honorees of the Gallery of Champions and their portraits were added to the permanent collection in the Gallery. The Honorees who attended the occasion and signed their portraits and prints were Tony Jacklin CEB, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Sandy Lyle and Roberto De Vicenzo. Although Seve Ballesteros was unable to attend in person, he was kind enough to honour the Gallery with his best wishes. In memory of Seve, his original oil painted portrait will be sold on the occasion of the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles in 2014, with all of the proceeds being donated to Seve's Foundation. An identical canvas facsimile of Seve's portrait will continue to be permanently exhibited in the Gallery of Champions.
In order to pay enduring tribute to golf's greatest living champions, a new series of oil painted portraits is being created by Joe Austen and will be permanently exhibited in the Gallery of Champions beside the portraits of the greatest champions of the present and the past. In acknowledgement of the par 72 of the Old Course, exclusive Limited Editions of 72 canvas prints and 72 paper prints of each new portrait will also be created.
